The Cherokee Language

Posted on July 30th, 2010 in cherokee parts by

Like other languages, the Cherokee language is named after its people, the Cherokee. It is part of the Iroquoian language family, and it is the only Southern Native American language from the group that is still used.

The Cherokee language is associated with the South because its speakers reside in the Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia, Kentucky, and Oklahoma.

Most people know of the Cherokee by way of the Trail of Tears. Basically, it was the American enforcement of relocation for all Native American tribes in the 1800s. Countless Cherokees died during this tragic process.

As for the language, Cherokee is a speech rich in syllabary, but you may be surprised to learn that it does not have values for the English letters “p” and “b”.

The consonant “m” is also a recent. Some symbols of the language look like Latin letters (but don’t sound anything like them), and whereas the English alphabet only has six vowels, the Cherokee language boasts twelve, both short and long. The Cherokee alphabet or syllabary has a total of eighty-five character strings.

Tsa-la-gi (“Cherokee” to natives) is a complicated dialect in that each verb can take on thousands of inferred forms. Many words are translated as phrases to the English ear; i.e., the word attorney is branded as “one who argues repeatedly on purpose for a purpose” in Cherokee.

The Cherokee are not exempt form adopting a few English terms of their own, however, similarly to how the English language has taken foreign lingo like R.S.V.P. (r?ndez s’il vous pla? under its wing. They also have slang.

Cherokee in today’s world is comprised of two major dialects: the Giduwa and the Otali. The main difference is that the Northwestern Cherokee use tl sound while the Southeastern employ ts. Whichever the dialect, the tongue is spoken by up to 20,000 individuals throughout the Cherokee Nation.

The term “Cherokee” itself has been spelled at least fifty different ways in the past (the current spelling dates back to about the eighteenth century).

Its literal meaning is “people with another language”. Aniyunwiya, or “the principal people”, is what the Cherokees called themselves in the beginning. Most Cherokees are not raised bilingually today, but as they get older, most opt to learn English.

There are many self study courses online if you are interested in learning Cherokee yourself. It won’t be the easiest process, however, as Cherokee is quite different from English.

Hennessey?s Srt600 Jeep Grand Cherokee Srt8

Posted on July 30th, 2010 in grand cherokee parts by

It’s faster than a speeding Porsche Cayenne Turbo. It laughs at the face of a BMW X5 and sprints to 60 mph faster than a new Mustang GT. The new super car, Jeep’s rowdy Grand Cherokee SRT8 is equipped with a powerful 6.1 liter Hemi V8, delivering a potent 420 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque. This SUV family hauler is definitely not your average SUV and you will know soon enough once you hear its throaty roar as it reach a quarter mile in a matter of 13.5 seconds which by the way is only a muscle car territory.

Despite the power delivered by Jeep’s Grand Cherokee SRT8 it still doesn’t match the performance of the Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe and for this same reason why the Hennessey Performance created the new SRT600 package. The Hennessey Performance was the same people responsible for tuning up the Viper and since it wants to always create something more powerful than its previous masterpiece it has developed the performance package that will enable the Grand Cherokee SRT8 to finally defeat the ferocious Dodge V10 Viper in a 0 to 60 and quarter mile sprint.

Actually this was already accomplished with the new Hennessey SRT600 fortified Jeep, the Viper was outpaced to 60 mph by half a second and cross the quarter mile finish line two-tenths sooner than a much lower and lighter Viper.

Ever wondered where the Jeep’s added Saturn V-like thrust comes from? Instead of a solid rocket booster, a big Garrett turbocharger has provided the boost to a modified 6.1 liter V8. How did the Hennessey Performance accomplish this? First they started by removing the stock SRT8 V8 and tear it down to the cast-iron cylinder block. Afterwards heavy-duty bearings were added before the installation of aftermarket forged steel connecting rods, forged-aluminum 9.5:1piston, and high performance piston rings.

Hennessey has also reworked the cylinder heads creating a full porting on the intake and exhaust runners along with polished combustion chambers. And on airflow test bench conducted by Hennessey the ported heads flow 360 cfm on each intake port which is about 60 cfm more than stock.

To further increase airflow to the cylinders a single Garrett T4 turbocharger that delivers seven psi of thrust was added. The custom-made stainless-steel headers deliver exhaust to the turbo, then boost is fed through the 3.5 inch polished stainless steel tubing, a big front mount air-to-air aluminum intercooler and custom inlet tubing replete with twin billet-aluminum blow-off valves. To keep the turbo’s boost in check is a single 44 mm wastegate while the 180 degree thermostat helps the Hemi to remain cool.

Hennessey has also added a high-volume fuel pump that delivers a continuous flow of petrol likewise the oversized fuel injectors and a special fuel-pressure regulator are being monitored by a custom-programmed engine computer. The result of all these process is a 6.1 liter V8 that delivers 600 horsepower at 5200 rpm backed by 650 lb-ft of torque at 4000 revs. Such powerful torque requires a lot of engine airflow that lead the Hennessey to fit a dual three inch diameter stainless steel exhaust system, high flow mufflers, and a polished four inch diameter exhaust tips. At rest, the SRT600 is like a meek lamb but try to flat-foot the throttle and it awakens into a monstrous beast. A word of caution: The Hennessey SRT600 Jeep SRT8 is not for the faint-hearted.

The modifications done on the Jeep SRT8 was maintained at a minimum level which means that aside from the engine, the basic components of the SRT8 like for instance its Jeep fuel filter, the factory SRT spec Brembo disc brakes and many more were not altered. The exterior was however enhanced by adding a few SRT600 badges and optional 20×10.5 inches forged aluminum wheels wrapped in a Michelin Pilot Sport 2 295/30ZR20 tires.

Snap out the trim around the headlight switch and remove all five screws located under the trim panels.
Remove the five additional screws from underneath the top of the front dash panels.
Pull the dash panel out and set it aside. Remove the two 10mm bolts, one on each side of the Jeep Grand Cherokee stereo, and pull the stereo out of the dash.

Turn the head unit on and verify the speakers and controls are working properly.
Secure the stereo with the 10mm bolts, screw and snap the remaining trim pieces into place.
It’s easier to fix a problem while everything is still exposed. Turn on the power and try each source (AM, FM, CD (if stereo)).

Then adjust the balance and fader settings to check that each speaker is working.

You’re brand new radio with iPod, Mp3 USP features and get so many songs with you in the Chrysler car.

Once you’re sure the radio is wired and working properly, finish securing it in the dash and reinstall any pieces of dash trim panel that you removed.

A word about the radio installation kit you are about to install. There are many manufacturers of radio installation kits for this vehicle. Each manufacturer produces slightly different variations of the same kit, and a few make individual kits for specific vehicles. The pictured installation kit shown in the illustrations below is a standard kit used for many. Radio installation kits change with the model and years of production of the vehicle. When selecting a kit for this vehicle, make sure the kit you purchase states on the package the installation kit will work with your vehicle model and year. Some kits may require additional setup. Certain kits may be multi function kits designed to work with multiple vehicles and may require the installer to remove break away screw mounting tabs attached to the kit that are not required for your particular vehicle.

Is This The Swan Song For The Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Posted on July 30th, 2010 in grand cherokee by

The Jeep brand has a lofty and historic heritage, one that was came to life during the darkest hours of World War II. At that time, the US military needed a vehicle which could move its way through the French countryside, German bogs and far eastern paddy fields, thus the Jeep was born.

Since the second world war ended, Jeep has been available to the general public and it is the vehicle which gave way to the rise of sport/utility vehicles now common with virtually all automakers.

Jeep itself has survived its own turbulence having been bought and sold several times over the course of its lifetime. Willys, Kaiser and American Motors were the earliest owners of the Jeep brand followed by Chrysler Corporation, DaimlerChrysler and the all new Chrysler LLC company formed in 2007 when Chrysler was separated from its German parent, the new Daimler AG.

Since 1993, the flagship vehicle in the Jeep fleet is the Grand Cherokee although the newer Commander is actually the largest Jeep model currently sold. That latter model has been a slow seller and will probably be discontinued after the current model year.

If Jeep lives long enough, customers will see a new model next year, the 2011 Grand Cherokee. Now entering its fourth generation, the Grand Cherokee will probably be the final model produced by Chrysler LLC as the company is basically bankrupt and hoping that its pending alliance with Fiat SpA works out. If Chrysler and Fiat are able to strike up a deal, then Jeep would be included in that plan. If not, a bankrupt Chrysler would be sold off in pieces with Jeep likely to go to the highest bidder.

The next generation Jeep Grand Cherokee keeps its off-road capabilities intact despite contrary rumors suggesting that the vehicle would be transformed into a crossover model. Featuring all-new Quadra-Lift air suspension system, the Grand Cherokee delivers legendary Jeep off-road capability along with the new Selec-Terrain system that allows the driver to choose the drive system that best matches on- or off-road driving conditions. New front and rear independent suspension systems deliver premium on-road handling and comfort.

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s standard engine is an all-new flexible fuel 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine. The 3.6-liter V-6 engine is an all-new design featuring double overhead camshafts (DOHC) and a high-pressure die-cast aluminum cylinder block in a 60-degree configuration. This engine will offer an 11% increase in fuel economy while customers will also be able to choose a HEMI V-8 for additional power and towing capabilities.

No matter what becomes of Jeep, the brand’s legendary track record remains Chrysler’s most valuable asset, one that will likely continue whether Fiat or some other company gains control over the world’s oldest off-road brand.

New Jeep Grand Cherokee Launched in Europe

Posted on July 30th, 2010 in grand cherokee accessories by

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee, making its launch in Europe, was shown in France to media and brand enthusiasts during the 2007 Euro Camp Jeep event.

The Jeep comes with an extremely advanced and flexible Hill Descent Control for greatly enhanced control in off-road situations. Holding the vehicle automatically on steep hills is a new Hill Start Assist for a smooth and controlled drive away from a stop. During towing, trailer sway is reduced because of the Trailer Sway Control. The new Grand Cherokee also comes along with a new 4.7-litre V-8 engine that yields a refinement in fuel economy of more than 5 per cent, with a 30 per cent jump in horsepower and a 10 per cent hike in torque. Redesigned interior and exterior are also visible on the vehicle. Other than those, the new Grand Cherokee also features a wide array of innovative, premium amenities.

Thomas Hausch, Chrysler Group’s Vice President for International Sales said that the addition of all those features and more, such as the choice of five engines and two four-wheel-drive systems, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee adds more capability and improvement to the standard full-size SUV that created the luxury SUV market when it was launched in 1992.

The Jeep-engineered Hill Descent Control is built to echo the downhill control and flexibility that are afforded by the ultra-low gearing found in a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with its 4:1 ratio transfer case and 6-speed manual transmission. This gearing provides controlled hill descent for six speeds.

The Hill Descent Control is operational in the 4WD Low position. It supplies downhill assistance at a controlled rate of speed with more accuracy and smoother operation than by merely using the brakes. Hill Descent Control supplements the lessening of gear and engine braking that a traditional mechanical low-range transfer case provides. This is done by means of electronic brake control. And not like most of its rivals, the new Grand Cherokee with Hill Descent Control offers extremely smooth transitions between speeds and allows the driver to use the throttle and brakes without turning the system off. Best of all, this is achieved with a smooth and controlled return to the preset speed after the driver releases the throttle or brakes.

We need to see other parts like Jeep cargo net, air conditioning system, axle, and catalytic converter, and test drive it to conclude what really a new Jeep Grand Cherokee is.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Combines the Comfort of an SUV With the Performance of a Sports Car

Posted on July 30th, 2010 in cherokee parts by

If you crave the incredible speed and high performance agility of a sports car, but need a little more leg room or towing capacity, look no further than the luxurious Jeep Grand Cherokee. Originally introduced in 1993, Jeep’s flag-ship sports utility vehicle (SUV) has evolved throughout the past fifteen years to become a refined, powerful, and sleek machine. It is capable of going 0 MPH to 60 MPH in less than five seconds while still providing a superior on- and off-road experience, important for those true Jeep aficionados!

Initially developed as a spin-off of the smaller Jeep Cherokee, the Jeep Grand Cherokee quickly created a name for itself with its spacious interior, comfortable ride, natural-feeling steering, luxury materials, safety features, legendary Jeep off-road capability, and on-demand acceleration. Its secret to a comfortable ride, while still allowing for great speed and off-road performance, lays in the stiff unibody chassis coupled with an advanced four-wheel drive system. Built upon a stiff car-like chassis, the Grand Cherokee is lighter than if it had been built on a truck-style body-on-frame design. Advantages to the car-chassis base include less weight for better fuel economy, easier entry and exit, safety, and better on-road handling.

Even with the improvement in on-road handling, one of Jeep Grand Cherokee’s top capabilities is off-road performance. Owners can choose from one of five engine types, including a diesel engine, and one of three four-wheel-drive systems. Instead of independent suspensions, the Grand Cherokee utilizes Jeep’s Quadra-Coil suspension combined with four links and coiled springs. “Consumer Guide” ranks it as a class leader when it comes to off-road capabilities, even though the Grand Cherokee also provides a comfortable ride for long-distance on-the-pavement travel.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee ranks five stars for federal government crash tests in addition to incredible acceleration, maneuverability through urban settings, roomy interior, stylish design, and off-road capabilities. Standard accident avoidance features include electronic stability, four-wheel traction control, front and side-curtain airbags, roll-over sensors, anti-lock brakes, brake assist, tire pressure monitoring system, enhanced accident response system, and SmartBeam headlamps that adjust the brightness of the high beam based on oncoming traffic. Other options include a ParkView rear back-up camera, ParkSense rear back-up system, High Intensity Discharge headlights, Hill Descent Control, and Hill Start Assist.

Safety ratings, roomy interiors, towing ability, off-road handling, and enhanced two-wheel or four-wheel drive capabilities are great features of the Grand Cherokee that cannot be touched by a sports car or competing SUVs in its class. Even while noting the differences, the similarities between the two vehicles are striking. Like many sports cars, the Grand Cherokee can move from 0 MPH to 60 MPH in less than five seconds. It feels secure and precise when traveling around high-speed curves, the steering feels natural, and stiff suspension underpinnings reduce the body roll while delivering a confident ride. A tight turning radius is an added improvement from the original models, making the Grand Cherokee nimble when parking in a lot or crawling the over trails. Smooth transmission shifts, strong braking ability, and powerful engine options provide the Jeep Grand Cherokee a raw feeling of power. In spite of this, luxury and capability are not an issue, as the Grand Cherokee has been found equal to or better than the Porsche Cayenne or Land Rover LR2 in independent studies. In comparing the reliability and price of the vehicles to the Grand Cherokee, both fall short of being reliable and stand too high in price. The Grand Cherokee also withstood a side-by-side comparison to the Audi R8 and was found to be capable of giving the R8 a run for its money.

In addition to handling performance, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has many luxury features that are found in many sports cars. The Grand Cherokee boasts options such as heated front seats, remote stereo controls on the steering wheel, driver’s side memory system for two different drivers, auto-dimming rear-view and side mirrors, quality carper, soft leather trims, and powerful stereos. The body style evolved from a hard edge style to a softer rounded look while retaining the chiseled strength of the original version. Interior space has been described as the size of an indoor hockey rink, while providing bins and pockets throughout for plenty of storage space. The interior remains refined, even with the large space and areas for storage. SIRIUS backseat TVs and MyGig entertainment systems are a few of the electronic upgrades available for the Grand Cherokee, allowing children to be fully occupied during long trips. The SIRIUS TVs boast first-ever-in-vehicle streaming video technology, offered exclusively by Chrysler. With luxuries like these, the Grand Cherokee creates a pleasant atmosphere for your family as you drive to your destination.

There are many great features that would inspire someone to purchase a Jeep Grand Cherokee instead of a sports car. With the traditional speed and handsome body style of a sports car in conjunction to the off-roading capability of a Jeep, and the roominess of an SUV, the Grand Cherokee delivers.

Jeep Cherokee For Sale

Posted on July 30th, 2010 in cherokee for sale by

Jeep has been manufacturing the Jeep Cherokee in some form or another since 1974, and that translates into many options for the consumer shopping for a Jeep Cherokee for sale. It all started with the Jeep Cherokee (SJ) in 1974, which Jeep then replaced with the XJ in 1984, and manufactured until 2001. Jeep replaced that with the Jeep Liberty, also known as the Jeep Cherokee (KJ). In addition to these Cherokees, Jeep began manufacturing the Grand Cherokees in 1993.

Jeep Cherokee (SJ) 1974-1983

Similar to the famed Wagoneer that Brooks Stevens designed in 1963, the SJ, which boasts an iconic visual style, was a moderately popular full-size SUV during the 1970s and early 1980s. Its popularity grew in the years after its discontinuation. They are becoming increasingly difficult to find today, and thus highly sought after by off-road enthusiasts and other types of automotive aficionados.

Jeep Cherokee (XJ) 1984-2001

Although the XJ shared its name with the SJ model that preceded it, they shared very little else in common. The XJ is a unibody compact SUV, and it does not employ the body-on-frame chassis that was a defining element of the SJ models. The XJs are so popular that it is common to see the late 1990s and later models still used for regular driving. These are highly durable vehicles, and their only real deficiency is a lack of modern safety features.

Jeep Liberty or Jeep Cherokee (KJ/KK) 2002-Present

Called the Jeep Liberty in North America and the Cherokee in other parts of the world, the KJ is the modern incarnation of the XJ. While sticking to its compact, off-road roots, the Chrysler influence has steered the current Jeep Cherokee for sale toward a focus on luxury. The current version costs approximately $23,000, and boasts a standard package that includes 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry, air-conditioning, full power accessories, automatic headlamps, and a six-speaker CD stereo system with satellite radio.

Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ) 1993-1998

Introduced in 1993, the Grand Cherokees were a sport-influenced mid-size UniFrame SUV. The ZJs were available as Base, Laredo, and Limited. These were essentially a sparse standard package, a mid-tier package, and a deluxe premium package, respectively. The 1995 models and beyond include ample safety features, and make for viable options for the modern used car shopper.

Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ) 1999-2004

The Grand Cherokee became amazingly popular, and as we neared the turn of the century, Jeep introduced a style and function update to celebrate it. The theme behind the WJ is power and luxury, and it certainly met those standards for all five years of its production. This is the sweet spot for used car buyers that want to limit cost while achieving maximum feature set and safety level.

Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK) 2005-2010

The WK is a modern refinement of the wildly popular WJ. Unless they have heavy mileage, these vehicles hold their value well, so the car buyer considering one may also want to consider a brand new WK2. The prices are not going to be worlds apart.

Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK2) 2011-Present

The 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is an elegant refinement of everything we loved about the WJ and the WK. The aspect that separates the WK2 from the WK is the all-new chassis that provides significant improvements to the suspension. The base 2011 Jeep Cherokee for sale is going to cost you about $30K, and brings with it a 3.6-liter V6 that produces 290 horsepower. The equipment package includes 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone air-conditioning, cruise control, keyless ignition, automatic headlights, and a six-speaker CD audio system with satellite radio.
