Posted on August 19th, 2010 in grand cherokee accessories by

The Grand Cherokee is of the jeep class and is manufactured by the well renowned Chrysler, an American automaker. It was launched into the market in the year 1992 and is continued to be manufactured. It is a multiple utility vehicle and is of medium size. The Cherokees were simultaneously manufactured in Europe and America. The design of the Cherokee was made by the American Motors in the early 80s. The design of the Cherokee was a jeep model and could be used profusely for transport of grocery and other farm product. Though the car was released in 1988, it underwent many changes continuously to improve its look and performance. It had automatic transmission and manual five speed transmission. There were three models that were manufactured initially. They were the base, limited and Laredo.

The base model consisted of all basic features like the manual five speed transmission and the interior was made of cloth. Some features like electronics controlled windows were optional but later made as the basic feature and was made costly. The limited was highly sophisticated by making a customer have many latest features. These features included leather interiors, electronic controlled locking and sunroof, and heated seats. There was also a provision for a computer. The wheels in this version were made of aluminium alloy which had good performance.

The Laredo had many standard features including power windows, locks and the exterior appearance was made more elegant. It provided airbags for safety and also powerful fog lights. This was an essential for people of both America and Europe since the weather in the winter is foggy. The engine was also modified and produced more torque to give faster pick up and high speed. Since it is considered as a jeep or heavy vehicle the diesel engine were preferred. Torque up to 470 N.m was reachable. The limited version was most luxurious of the three versions. It was available only in three colours: slate, white and platinum.

The manufacture of Limited was the most compared to the other versions of the Cherokee. The radio dash kit of the Cherokee was exemplary. It provided ten speakers for amazing sound system, each of 180 watt power. The double DIN could also be incorporated which had one head unit and the other for playing compact discs. It comes in many colours also and adaptors for making the apertures possible to fit in the universal sized stereos. The later versions of the Cherokee had a sports look which could be used for trekking too. After the modifications made in 1999, the Cherokee had a drastic makeover. It has engine which produced higher torque and better fuel efficiency. It also had an option of having a four wheel driven ride. To minimize the cost of labor and production the manufacture was shifted to Chinese units. The backseat has very less space and is cramped. On highways, at high speed the Cherokee gives a bouncy drive. It was preferred by many because of its features which were relatively luxurious for a jeep.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee (2005-2007) belongs to the mid sized cars. This car is produced by the Chrysler group jeep division. Austria and Magna Steyr are the sites of production of this jeep Grand Cherokee. The production of this car began in the year 1993 and till today it’s been manufactured and sold. The car manufactured from 1993 to 2010 belonged to the class mid size SUV. The cars to be manufactured from 2011 will belong to the class mid size crossover SUV. It has a body style of 4 doors SUV. This car is commonly known as Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

This design of the car was an outcome of the attempt of the American Motor Engineers to find a successor to the small jeep Cherokee. Larry Shinoda, Giorgetta Giugiaro and Adam Clenet were the three non-AMC’s who created “XJC” project, a replacement model and also built a clay model for the same. However the AMC’s designers replaced the basic design of Cherokee. This was the first jeep product of the Chrysler group of companies which was a launched in a grand manner at North American international auto show in Detroit, Michigan in the year 1992. The feature of the all new Grand Cherokee which was launched in 2004 and named as 2005 model are Quadra-Drive II four-wheel drive, optional 5.7L HemiV8 and rear-seat DVD Player.

These were available for the first time. Also, 4.0L Straight6 engine was replaced by a 3.7L V6 engine. Detroit, Michigan, United States and Graz, Austria are the places were they are assembled. It has got the WK platform. There a 5 different configurations available for this car. They are 3.0L OM642 V6 CRD, 3.7L Power Tech V6, 4.7L Power Tech V8,5.7L Hemi V8,6.1L HemiV8(SRT-8).The 5-speed 545RFE and 5-Speed W5A580 are the two automatic transmissions provided. The Wheel base is 109.5 inches and the curb weight is 2,210kg. The length is 195.1inches with the width of 84.2 inches and the height of it is about 67.4 inches. The models available in 2005-2007 are Laredo, Limited, Overland, and SRT-8. The power of the car is nearly 265hp with a torque of 305 lb-ft. The luxury and power are two areas still on design highlight. Vibration, noise and harshness are also the places where significant work is begin done.

The on-road performance was also taken into considerable amount for its brand’s cornerstone. The European Debut of the jeep Grand Cherokee was made at Euro camp which was held in Ardeche, France in the year 2007.The fourth generation of the car is to be launched in the year 2011.A filter for diesel particulate used to reduce the emission exhaust was included in 3.0L V6 CRD 2007 models in North America. The radio dash kit for this car consists of an aerial adapter, Fascia plate and harness adapter. Maintaining high quality has great importance when it comes to installation and usage. This should maintain the original color, texture and final finish of the car as it was earlier. Hence it should be designed specifically. This kit is available without navigation.

How to Install a Aftermarket Radio in Chrysler Grand Cherokee

Posted on July 30th, 2010 in grand cherokee accessories by

The Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with premium sound but when the system stops working or additional features are desired, replacements are a good option.

Upgrading the stereo in a Jeep Grand Cherokee requires removing the front dash panel, which is much simpler than it sounds. Installation takes two hours or less and requires basic tools.
Aftermarket Radio Install Difficulty Level:

This can vary depending on Grand Cherokee vehicle and how complex the dash components are connected together. Take your time, don’t grab and yank! There are clips, screws and other various ways that dashes are held together.

Aftermarket Radio installation kit:
The radio installation kit mounts the new radio into the existing opening in your dash.

Wiring Harnesses:
Your aftermarket radio wire harness will wire color for color to the installation kit wire harness. The radio install kit harness will plug into the existing radio harness in your car.

Antenna adapter:
If needed the antenna adapter will connect the factory antenna adapter and your aftermarket radio.

Tools Needed for Radio in Grand Cherokee
Flathead and Screwdrivers
Standard and Metric Sockets
Flashlight
Electrical Tape
Radio Removal Keys
Wire Cutters
Wire Crimpers

Grand Cherokee Installation Instructions:
An Aftermarket Wire Harness is used for Installing & Upgrading to a New Stereo System from a Stock Radio. A Wire Harness plugs directly into a cars Harness to easily allow you to install a new Aftermarket Radio. Basically PLUG N PLAY
Locate the trim panel around the air conditioning controls and unsnap it from the dash.
In years prior to 1996, the trim surrounding the stereo requires removing two bolts under the ashtray instead of removing the entire front dash panel.
Snap out the trim around the headlight switch and remove all five screws located under the trim panels.
Remove the five additional screws from underneath the top of the front dash panels.
Pull the dash panel out and set it aside. Remove the two 10mm bolts, one on each side of the Jeep Grand Cherokee stereo, and pull the stereo out of the dash.
Disconnect the wires from the back of the radio and let them hang from the front of the dash.
Secure the new stereo into the Jeep radio mounting kit per the manufacturer’s instructions.
Connect the wiring harness adaptor to the original harness and then to the back of the new radio.
Insert the antenna wire and slide the entire assembly into the dash.
Turn the head unit on and verify the speakers and controls are working properly.
Secure the stereo with the 10mm bolts, screw and snap the remaining trim pieces into place.
It’s easier to fix a problem while everything is still exposed. Turn on the power and try each source (AM, FM, CD (if stereo)).

Then adjust the balance and fader settings to check that each speaker is working.

You’re brand new radio with iPod, Mp3 USP features and get so many songs with you in the Chrysler car.

Once you’re sure the radio is wired and working properly, finish securing it in the dash and reinstall any pieces of dash trim panel that you removed.

A word about the radio installation kit you are about to install. There are many manufacturers of radio installation kits for this vehicle. Each manufacturer produces slightly different variations of the same kit, and a few make individual kits for specific vehicles. The pictured installation kit shown in the illustrations below is a standard kit used for many. Radio installation kits change with the model and years of production of the vehicle. When selecting a kit for this vehicle, make sure the kit you purchase states on the package the installation kit will work with your vehicle model and year. Some kits may require additional setup. Certain kits may be multi function kits designed to work with multiple vehicles and may require the installer to remove break away screw mounting tabs attached to the kit that are not required for your particular vehicle.

New Jeep Grand Cherokee Launched in Europe

Posted on July 30th, 2010 in grand cherokee accessories by

The new Jeep Grand Cherokee, making its launch in Europe, was shown in France to media and brand enthusiasts during the 2007 Euro Camp Jeep event.

The Jeep comes with an extremely advanced and flexible Hill Descent Control for greatly enhanced control in off-road situations. Holding the vehicle automatically on steep hills is a new Hill Start Assist for a smooth and controlled drive away from a stop. During towing, trailer sway is reduced because of the Trailer Sway Control. The new Grand Cherokee also comes along with a new 4.7-litre V-8 engine that yields a refinement in fuel economy of more than 5 per cent, with a 30 per cent jump in horsepower and a 10 per cent hike in torque. Redesigned interior and exterior are also visible on the vehicle. Other than those, the new Grand Cherokee also features a wide array of innovative, premium amenities.

Thomas Hausch, Chrysler Group’s Vice President for International Sales said that the addition of all those features and more, such as the choice of five engines and two four-wheel-drive systems, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee adds more capability and improvement to the standard full-size SUV that created the luxury SUV market when it was launched in 1992.

The Jeep-engineered Hill Descent Control is built to echo the downhill control and flexibility that are afforded by the ultra-low gearing found in a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with its 4:1 ratio transfer case and 6-speed manual transmission. This gearing provides controlled hill descent for six speeds.

The Hill Descent Control is operational in the 4WD Low position. It supplies downhill assistance at a controlled rate of speed with more accuracy and smoother operation than by merely using the brakes. Hill Descent Control supplements the lessening of gear and engine braking that a traditional mechanical low-range transfer case provides. This is done by means of electronic brake control. And not like most of its rivals, the new Grand Cherokee with Hill Descent Control offers extremely smooth transitions between speeds and allows the driver to use the throttle and brakes without turning the system off. Best of all, this is achieved with a smooth and controlled return to the preset speed after the driver releases the throttle or brakes.

We need to see other parts like Jeep cargo net, air conditioning system, axle, and catalytic converter, and test drive it to conclude what really a new Jeep Grand Cherokee is.
